About this artwork
Artwork dedicated to the portrait of Bettino Ricasoli, nicknamed the “Iron Baron” (1809 - 1880), mayor of Florence and second president of the Council of the Kingdom of Italy after Camillo Benso Count of Cavour. In the history of the Italian Risorgimento he was one of the major architects of the Unification of Italy. The last years of his life he returned to replenish his physical and moral strength in contact with the land and with the humble farmers whom he deeply loved and whom he tried to raise both materially and morally, considering Tuscan agriculture almost sacred and posing as a “missionary.” In the work is the essence of a historical figure distinguished by determination and fortitude. Vibrant, warm tones and an expressionist approach evoke feelings of depth and mystery, making for a charismatic presence. This artwork will bring to any home a touch of history, contemplation and an aura of inspiration that encourages the viewer to reflect on the legacy of the great leaders of the past.
