About this artwork
Painting dedicated to Pistoia, named the Italian Capital of Culture 2017. Beyond the self-portrait that dominates the foreground, stands the view from above of the Tuscan city whose structure is composed around the central Piazza del Duomo. This, as if by magic, seems to emanate from the brush and radiate in the brightness diluted in the saturation of colors that caress the facets of the city. In creating this work, I employed the vigorous medium of oil to explore the depths of expressionism and surrealism, weaving in the metaphysical element as well. The self-portrait emerges overbearingly before a city that bends to the distortions of perception and memory. It is an introspective reflection on society, an investigation of reality that escapes, invites the viewer into a space of deep and emotional contemplation, perfect for enriching any domestic environment with an energy of mystery and reflection.
