Inspired by the intertwined narratives of race and heritage. By intertwining materials, 2D and 3D onto one surface I explore the layers (physical and metaphorically) of history and personal experiences that shape one's identity and their lasting impact on shaping collective histories. "The Fabric of Our Lives" is a two-panel artwork where canvases are joined together, allowing both the front and back sides of the canvases to be visible simultaneously. The left side of the composition portrays cotton plants that partially obscure the image of a young African American girl. Additionally, a crumpled canvas with more cotton plants is positioned on top of it, extending onto a portion of the back panel of the other canvas. On the back of the canvas, a 3D cotton plant is situated on the crossbar, painted solely in black and white.
