This oil painting, titled "Chicken Stock," explores creation and artistic creativity. A chick and chicken eggs symbolize either the beginning or the end, like in the age-old question: What came first, the chicken or the egg? Two brown eggs, one cracked open, are in the middle of the painting, with the chick beside them, looking on. To the left, a crumpled white canvas covers protruding three-dimensional egg shapes. Streaks of light blue, yellow, and white paint mark the canvas, echoing the colors of the background and the chick. The title "Chicken Stock" plays on a double meaning of the word "stock." Stock as a broth or stock as the act of evaluating, in this case taking stock of artistic tools that can convey the story of the Chicken and the egg.
