Seasonal Worker is one work from a three-piece series of transfers on wood that examines the contradictions hidden within familiar cultural rituals. The central figure—an aging man dressed as Santa Claus—sits slumped in an armchair, bottle in hand, absorbed by the television. At first glance, the scene is humorous; on closer inspection, it reveals a more unsettling reality. By transforming Santa Claus into an ordinary, exhausted seasonal laborer, the work questions the festive ideal associated with Christmas in Christian cultures. The character embodies the emotional fatigue, routine, and quiet loneliness that often lie beneath celebrations where alcohol becomes both a social ritual and a means of escape. Rather than portraying excess itself, the piece reflects on how the promise of togetherness can paradoxically lead to isolation. The transfer technique on wood reinforces this tension between nostalgia and disillusionment, inviting viewers to reconsider the fragile boundary between cultural myth and everyday life.
