About this artwork
"Chess Beats" is a mixed media artwork on wood that reimagines the classic chess game through a fresh, captivating lens. At the center of the piece, a young chimpanzee is depicted facing its first challenge in chess, capturing the essence of a curious and developing mind. The surrounding environment consists of an intricate geometric space that deconstructs before the viewer’s eyes, drawing them into a dynamic spiral that symbolizes the chimp’s mental journey as it attempts to master the chessboard. This piece reflects not only the innocence and exploration of the chimp, but also the tension between simplicity and complexity, learning and discovery. Signed back Mix media/ wood

About the artist
In recent years, my artistic practice has fused digital art with mixed media techniques in drawing and painting to explore the narrative connections between everyday objects and the human experience of constant, and sometimes meta, connectivity. I begin with a concept and then find the narrative that can be visually conveyed. I work with digital and pictorial materials that bridge the tangible world, creating a dialogue between the present and the past. My aim is to craft pieces that invite viewers to question the micro-narratives of contemporary life. The hybrid nature of my work reflects my experience of living in various countries, transcending cultural boundaries and evoking emotional engagement. Through the use of color, content, and form, my goal is to generate visual experiences that prompt reflection on human perception, encouraging a deeper awareness of how we connect with the world around us.
