About this artwork
In this particular painting, I depict a solitary basketball court, where the quiet yet intense atmosphere is broken by words circling the shooting area. These phrases, like "Move the ball," "Boo!", "Hot Potato," "Move your legs," and "Shoot!", evoke the dynamic energy of the game, capturing the urgency and pressure that comes with every play. This concept is closely tied to the idea of "The Sniper" – a parent who remains silent, observing with laser-like focus during high-stakes moments. When the time comes for a crucial play, they suddenly spring into action, shouting commands like “Shoot!” or “Pass!” with a voice that cuts through the tension, loud and sharp. The relationship between the parent’s sharp interjections and the words on the court creates a sense of anticipation, where every phrase intensifies the pressure, echoing the influence of these split-second decisions in a player’s performance. However, this type of behavior, often acting as an “Unofficial Coach,” can also undermine and confuse kids when they are learning how to play. While the intent might be to help, the conflicting commands between parents and coaches can make it difficult for young players to focus, causing stress and hesitation in moments when clarity and confidence are most needed. This painting not only illustrates the weight of those critical moments but also highlights the fine line between support and interference, emphasizing how well-meaning actions can inadvertently create confusion in the minds of young athletes.

About the artist
In recent years, my artistic practice has fused digital art with mixed media techniques in drawing and painting to explore the narrative connections between everyday objects and the human experience of constant, and sometimes meta, connectivity. I begin with a concept and then find the narrative that can be visually conveyed. I work with digital and pictorial materials that bridge the tangible world, creating a dialogue between the present and the past. My aim is to craft pieces that invite viewers to question the micro-narratives of contemporary life. The hybrid nature of my work reflects my experience of living in various countries, transcending cultural boundaries and evoking emotional engagement. Through the use of color, content, and form, my goal is to generate visual experiences that prompt reflection on human perception, encouraging a deeper awareness of how we connect with the world around us.
