Street Occupation reimagines an urban landscape where rats have become the dominant rulers of the city, reigning over its streets and homes in a darkly satirical reversal of the human order. Executed in laser engraving and watercolor on wood, the work blends humor with social commentary, transforming a familiar urban nuisance into an unsettling vision of power and adaptation. Presented in the format of a commemorative postage stamp, the piece depicts a three-headed mutant rat valued at five centavos, as though celebrating the moment these resilient creatures claimed the city as their own. Inspired by Philadelphia's well-known rat problem, the work borrows the visual language of philately to elevate an everyday concern into a fictional historical event, questioning how societies normalize the gradual occupation of public space. By combining archival aesthetics with speculative imagery, Street Occupation invites viewers to reflect on the fragile balance between civilization and nature, while offering a playful yet incisive meditation on urban life, resilience, and the narratives through which history is remembered.

I am a visual artist originally from Mexico City. I have two children and divide my time throughout the year among Barcelona, Philadelphia, and Mexico City. My career as an artist has been characterized by a quest for self-expression and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of my craft. I received my academic training in contemporary art in Munich, Mexico City, and Lyon; over the years, I have participated in various group and solo exhibitions, and I consider my work to be in constant evolution. These experiences have honed my technical skills, and I have deepened my thematic and conceptual understanding, which drive my artistic practice.
