It is often said, “the eye’s are the windows to the soul;” but the windows are not always open. We hide what we are ashamed of, parts of ourselves we do not want others to see, one could say we close the blinds. Eyes can share what remains unsaid, but they can also watch our every move. Unlike the versatility of eyes, flowers and plants are often overlooked. They provide pleasantries to our senses, yet after momentary bliss become commonplace. We hold onto those fleeting moments just as the flowers do. Each flower weathers a different storm just as we do. As an Artist I am particularly drawn to the unusual and absurd. My artwork is heavily inspired by my trauma and experiences. I use the imagery of botanicals to show the fragility of a survivor intertwined with the paranoia and trauma that comes from abuse.
