About this artwork
Part of my new series ‘Perfectly Unbalanced’ which I created only with my non dominant right hand following a ski injury. Created with a leaf that my 6 year old picked up in nature and brought home for me, acrylic paint, oil pastel and pencils. This body of work is a celebration of being resilient and fearless when life presents us with challenges. Using my non-dominant hand, I explored these moments of adaptation through bold and intuitive brushstrokes, new colours and new textures from sand and leaves. Not being in control allowed a very liberated and authentic expression of triumph over what seemed impossible to begin with. This artwork and the other 5 can be viewed on my website veredbrett.com

About the artist
Vered Brett is an abstract artist living in Cascais, Portugal. Vered’s art explores the depth, complexity and multiple layers of the stories and memories we carry with us throughout life. Her paintings invite the viewer to dive deep into hidden and unknown moments, peel the layers, and embrace self-acceptance and truth. The proximity to the ocean throughout her life is integral to her work and it is reflected in the choice of tools, textures and colours that she borrows from it. She uses water as a main medium to allow free flow of paint, creating soft borderlines and unpredictable marks. Her intuitive process is free from rules and liberating. Vered hopes to inspire viewers to feel fearless, free and vulnerable through her art.
