Merman Acrylic & pastel on canvas panel 40 × 40 cm A dark, drifting figure moves through water that feels more emotional than physical. Above him, the surface churns with warm flesh tones and swirling light; below, the depths glow in layered blues, greens, and luminous streaks of colour that fall like rain. This work lives in the space between myth and feeling. The figure is part human, part creature, suspended between worlds—neither fully submerged nor fully surfaced. The water becomes a psychological landscape: fluid, unstable, alive with memory and motion. The pastel marks drip and dissolve, while the acrylic holds weight and shadow, creating a tension between control and surrender. Merman is about being in-between. Between identities. Between states. Between holding on and letting go. It carries a quiet melancholy, but also a sense of surrender—of drifting rather than resisting. Original, one-of-a-kind artwork. Signed by the artist. Unframed. About the artist
Mixed-media artist. Color lover. Storyteller. Born and raised in South Africa and now living in Cyprus, I hold a degree in Fine Art from the University of the Witwatersrand. I paint in acrylic, pastel, watercolor, pencil, and ink. Canvas and wood often feature but paper is my first love. Working primarily from photos, I often manipulate images digitally to create a new composition and then paint. I’ve exhibited in Cyprus, London, and Athens and my collectors live in countries around the world.
