About this artwork
“Everyday is Monday” by Papayon is a visceral exploration of the cyclical nature of depression, where each day feels indistinguishable from the last, a relentless repeat of the mundane. The chaotic layering of colors and textures in this piece represents the overwhelming clutter of thoughts and emotions that accompany this state. The dominant red strokes symbolize the frustration and anger that often accompany this feeling, while the splashes of blue and hints of a halo suggest a longing for peace, a distant hope for relief. The text interwoven with the abstract forms reflects the intrusive thoughts and internal dialogue that can consume one’s mind. Despite the vivid colors, the piece evokes a sense of exhaustion, where even the weekend, typically a time of respite, feels no different from the workweek. This artwork captures the numbing sensation of monotony and the struggle to break free from it, a poignant reminder of the invisible battles many face daily.

About the artist
Figurative painting shaped by tension, irony, and spiritual resilience. Work that resists easy answers and unfolds through quiet intensity. Papayon (Roberto F. Salmon) is a U.S.-born Latin American contemporary artist based in Houston, TX. Working across oil, encaustic, cyanotype, and mixed media, his practice engages themes of trauma, faith, and personal reinvention through heavily worked surfaces and open-ended symbolism. His work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS), The Kennedy, and the Chelsea Museum District, and is available through Artsy and Artsper.
