About this artwork
This mixed media piece captures the raw tension and anticipation of a moment on the brink. The hand, poised and steady, contrasts against the rugged texture of the holstered weapon, evoking the timeless imagery of courage and control in a fleeting second. Rendered with expressive strokes and earthy tones, The Draw invites viewers into the drama of decision and action, where every detail speaks of preparation and presence. Papayon’s distinctive style brings life to this portrayal of stillness amidst intensity.

About the artist
Figurative painting shaped by tension, irony, and spiritual resilience. Work that resists easy answers and unfolds through quiet intensity. Papayon (Roberto F. Salmon) is a U.S.-born Latin American contemporary artist based in Houston, TX. Working across oil, encaustic, cyanotype, and mixed media, his practice engages themes of trauma, faith, and personal reinvention through heavily worked surfaces and open-ended symbolism. His work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS), The Kennedy, and the Chelsea Museum District, and is available through Artsy and Artsper.
