About this artwork
Medium: Oil and encaustic on canvas “Rebel Flame” embodies the untamed spirit of fire, breaking away from traditional warmth and igniting in electric blues and acid bright hues. In this piece, fire refuses to follow the rules — it burns wild and free, like life and like art itself. It’s a defiant spark, unapologetically setting its own blaze, on its own terms. An ode to resilience and irreverence, captured in bold, modern strokes.

About the artist
Figurative painting shaped by tension, irony, and spiritual resilience. Work that resists easy answers and unfolds through quiet intensity. Papayon (Roberto F. Salmon) is a U.S.-born Latin American contemporary artist based in Houston, TX. Working across oil, encaustic, cyanotype, and mixed media, his practice engages themes of trauma, faith, and personal reinvention through heavily worked surfaces and open-ended symbolism. His work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS), The Kennedy, and the Chelsea Museum District, and is available through Artsy and Artsper.
