About this artwork
Inspired by Dina’s surrounding woodlands and Shelley’s poetry, this abstract mixed media painting is composed of acrylics, oil sticks, soft pastels and pencils on sheer fabric, paper and wood. “Shelley’s poem “To a Skylark" explores the tension that exists between the perfected 'unpremeditated art' and the attempts by the poet to understand and capture it. The bird and its song transcend the limits of earthly existence and the bird has an inner knowledge potentially available to humanity, who knows happiness only through sadness.”

About the artist
As a multidisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker, I’ve always been attracted to the inner landscapes of human beings, exploring themes of cultural hybridity, psychology, and spirituality. Having lived among complex and conflictual worlds, my work reflects diverse cultural influences and a personal exploration of identity, belonging and freedom. My paintings are characterised by bold and vibrant colour choices, employing multiple media and materials, like the diverse fabrics of societies I inhabit. As a result of this identity tapestry, I became interested in the transcendental, and how we can arrive from the material to the immaterial, where perhaps we can find more things in common than the conflictual realities we live in.
