About this artwork
"An Anchored Soul Can Still Fly" is a mixed media abstract composition that delicately weaves together sheer fabric, paper, and wood, to convey through material interaction and transparency the complex interplay between our innate desire for deeper connections and our constant yearning for freedom. At its core, the painting explores the universal human need to feel anchored by meaningful relationships, symbolized by the layered textures and overlapping mirrored elements that create a sense of stability within the composition. Yet, amid the structured see-through framework, there is an ambivalent and vague visual that hints at the ever-present desire to detach from constraints and soar towards new horizons. The delicate balance between the tangible and the ethereal, the grounded and the boundless, invites viewers to contemplate the paradox of our existence—how we seek both security and liberation in equal measure, and how our souls, anchored though they may be, still possess the capacity to transcend limitations and take flight into the unknown.

About the artist
As a multidisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker, I’ve always been attracted to the inner landscapes of human beings, exploring themes of cultural hybridity, psychology, and spirituality. Having lived among complex and conflictual worlds, my work reflects diverse cultural influences and a personal exploration of identity, belonging and freedom. My paintings are characterised by bold and vibrant colour choices, employing multiple media and materials, like the diverse fabrics of societies I inhabit. As a result of this identity tapestry, I became interested in the transcendental, and how we can arrive from the material to the immaterial, where perhaps we can find more things in common than the conflictual realities we live in.
