About this artwork
“With Healing Intentions" is an abstract mixed media painting that explores the cathartic properties of tears, through a Freudian lens. Part of the series “Unrandomly” investigating the subconscious mind, the work features spontaneous, gestural stains and washes that serve as visual metaphors for the wordless outpouring of emotion. This artwork complements the painting from the same series titled “Tears are words”, trying to capture the conscious mind’s attempts to rationalise and make sense of the amorphous emotional realm. Translucent veils of pigment bleed and blend across the surface, suggesting the flow of tears as they release pent-up feelings from deep within the psyche. Both paintings delve into the human drive towards psychological equilibrium. Our tears - with healing intentions- symbolised by highly diluted paint and organic stains, become agent of emotional release and renewal, a flushing out of dissonant energies, to allow for integration and therapeutic wholeness. On the attached under-print, some washes of colours have been peeled off, leaving thinner white parts on the paper and higher transparency between the two materials. Like tears flowing down our cheeks, washing off make up and masks, the material interplay reveals small paths of clarity, where subconscious and conscious mind suddenly align.

About the artist
As a multidisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker, I’ve always been attracted to the inner landscapes of human beings, exploring themes of cultural hybridity, psychology, and spirituality. Having lived among complex and conflictual worlds, my work reflects diverse cultural influences and a personal exploration of identity, belonging and freedom. My paintings are characterised by bold and vibrant colour choices, employing multiple media and materials, like the diverse fabrics of societies I inhabit. As a result of this identity tapestry, I became interested in the transcendental, and how we can arrive from the material to the immaterial, where perhaps we can find more things in common than the conflictual realities we live in.
