About this artwork
“Subconsciously” is a mixed media artwork composed of a sheer fabric painted with acrylics, oil, soft pastels and pencils, hand stretched on wooden bars, to which its unique backprint on paper is attached, integrating material interaction and transparency. “Subconsciously” delves into the reservoir of memories, emotions, desires, and experiences accumulated over a lifetime in our subconscious mind. Freud stated that our encounters with individuals are not merely coincidental, but are deeply rooted in the recesses of our subconscious. Thus, when we encounter someone who resonates with us on a profound level, it is often because they somehow mirror or complement aspects of our own subconscious makeup. Dina’s new series of see-through screen paintings is trying to capture this subconscious resonance, fabrics that are mirroring their unique prints on paper, which layered together create a new perception, both reminiscing of a different psyche, both recognising something vaguely known in each other.

About the artist
As a multidisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker, I’ve always been attracted to the inner landscapes of human beings, exploring themes of cultural hybridity, psychology, and spirituality. Having lived among complex and conflictual worlds, my work reflects diverse cultural influences and a personal exploration of identity, belonging and freedom. My paintings are characterised by bold and vibrant colour choices, employing multiple media and materials, like the diverse fabrics of societies I inhabit. As a result of this identity tapestry, I became interested in the transcendental, and how we can arrive from the material to the immaterial, where perhaps we can find more things in common than the conflictual realities we live in.
