“Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world. The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same. Every wonderous sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade. But do not be disheartened, the source they come from is eternal – growing, branching out, giving new life and new joy.” – rumi I sat by my window most of one year observing a tree, watching the leaves fall, the snow balance, and then the life return. I sat and wrote. I wondered about all the things that I question, the doubts that arise so easily in some areas, and all the things I never question. I had lived in that house almost 15 years and I never doubted the leaves would fall. I never questioned their return. It was a strong healthy tree. That year, I had more confidence in that tree than I had in myself. My doubts were loud, my inner critic was working overtime. But somehow in watching that tree, in writing my thoughts down day after day, I began to recognize my own seasons, the ups, the downs, the in betweens. I began to understand how natural it was to shift from growing to resting, from moving fast to being still. I gave myself permission to let sorrow and joy fade knowing that they would each return and then fade again. My mantra from that understanding is “Be Here Now.” I try to keep my mind in this present moment, in the room where I am, in the comfort of now.
