About this artwork
The painting is made of oil paint, sumi ink, and graphite on hand-made gessoed board that tinted with indigo dye. It was an intuitive process where I started making marks by using materials as a guide to reveal what wanted to come out. Much of the time, my intuitive painting process feels akin to how a monk carves a Buddha—not by imposing a preconceived image, but by allowing the form to emerge, revealing what the block itself wishes to become.

About the artist
Painter and dwriter (draw & writer), now based in Fukuoka, Japan. I’m passionate about art as a way of connecting—both with oneself and with others. I believe there’s no hierarchy among art forms. My practice ranges from oil paintings on linen to single-panel cartoons on index cards, and inclusive, all-ages art workshops. More to come.
