About this artwork
‘Rhino’ is a single piece of hand cut watercolour paper painted with acrylic paint. The work is mounted on a birch panel with archival glue. It’s amazing to me how well the mass and fortitude of this powerful creature can be shown using the frail medium of paper. The mottling of the skin has been caught really realistically by the paint, and though he is still on the panel, there is a strong sense of movement, a striding, in the work.

About the artist
I am a self-taught visual artist, as well as a regularly published fiction writer and multi-optioned screenwriter. I’m grateful to have an international reach in all the arts I practice, as connecting to things and people outside my experience excites me and makes me happy. To me, life is mysterious and spiritual, and when it needs to be spoken of, I think art, any art, is the best language to speak about that mystery. I work with papers, acrylics and mixed medias, often in relief style where my works have the qualities of abstract painting, design, and sculpture all bound dramatically and beautifully together. I think this is the result of a night in Niagara Falls when I was 6 years old. Ask me about that if we meet in person.
