About this artwork
"Adventurer like you" was inspired by the game Skyrim, like so much of my recent work. Players may recall the guards sometimes approach you and say "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the knee." I always took it literally and thought they meant they suffered an injury. Later I found out this was a true expression from times past, meaning they'd gotten married. They fell to their knee during the proposal. There is something so darling about this that it always stuck with me. In this painting, I show a beautiful fantasy elf falling from the sky, ephemeral bow in hand, smiling and caught red handed having shot the knight in the knee. I wanted to capture the lighthearted positivity of the phrase which seems so unlike the gruesome reality of having an arrow pierce your flesh. But hey, sometimes love can feel like that.
