In 1999, Norm Yip left his career as an architect to pursue a passion for art and photography. It was a difficult decision after years of studying architecture and working as a project manager for an international firm in Hong Kong. His work spans various two-dimensional mediums, including painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, and photography, with a focus on abstraction and series-based projects. Thematically, Norm's art has evolved from an exploration of the metaphysical properties of consciousness and the inner space of being to responding to current events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, protests, and tragic shootings. His work is highly charged, energetic, and expressionistic, with bold, unhesitant use of color. Consequently, his art is best understood in series rather than through a singular visual style. Norm has exhibited in cities such as Hong Kong, New York, Zurich, and Bangkok, with collectors spanning Asia, Europe, and North America. In 2021, he moved back to Canada, where he now serves as a full-time caregiver for his mother.
