Artist Bio Jesse Whittle is a visual artist whose work explores the boundaries between abstraction and representation through drawing, painting, and mixed media. With a practice rooted in material experimentation and conceptual inquiry, their recent work investigates themes of impermanence, transformation, and the body. Their current series, Quartz Mountain Drawing, was developed during a residency at Quartz Mountain and reflects a deep engagement with both classical art history and contemporary theory. Through expressive linework, layered surfaces, and fragmented forms, the series reimagines the human skull—long a symbol of mortality—as a site of formal and philosophical exploration. Jesse Whittle holds a B.A. from St. Gregory’s University and has exhibited work in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Their art has been recognized for its bold use of color, experimental approach to materials, and commitment to process-driven practice. When not in the studio, they contribute to the field through teaching, curatorial projects, and collaborative work with fellow artists. Jesse Whittle currently lives and works in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
