About this artwork
This quilt explores my personal depersonalization, derealization, and self self acceptance. As usual, this artwork is almost entirely made of secondhand and sustainable fibers. The metal accents were my great aunt’s jewelry that she passed down to me.

About the artist
Emily Cavender, also known as Ominous Outlooks is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus in fiber arts. Her work explores her identity as an artist living with rare diseases and chronic pain. She hopes that her work advocates for more accessibility across the board and inspires hope in her viewers. Emily loves to work with the dreamscape that she has created. In 2024 she got her BFA at the University of North Texas in art education. Emily wants to help others by sharing her story through her art and believes that it will educate the public about the power of perspectives of disabled artists as well as the power and rich history within fiber arts.
