Jaxxa’s multi-faceted practice explores themes of vulnerability, courage, desire, pleasure and liberation through the creation of shiny, colorful, glitter-dipped artworks. He was born in the Detroit area and grew up nomadically in a military family. He received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts and completed post-graduate work at Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts. Jaxxa received his BS from Michigan State University and attended summer programs at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Rhode Island School of Design. Jaxxa’s work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in New York City including New York Public Library, La MaMa Gallery, New York University, apexart, Longwood Art Gallery, Rush Arts Gallery, New Collectors Gallery and Pavel Zoubok Gallery. He also has exhibited across the United States and internationally including Terrain Biennial, Chicago, Illinois and Vienna, Austria; University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada; Atlantic Works Gallery, Boston, MA; Fathom Gallery, Washington DC; Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, Washington; Museo Maseo, Soriano, Uruguay; and Melbourne Graduate School of Education, Melbourne, Australia. Jaxxa’s work has been included in publications by The New York Times, Visual AIDS, New York Public Library and The Seattle Times. He was awarded an Artists Space Independent Project Grant. His public artwork, Potential Connections was installed for the inauguration of Seattle’s Link Light Rail system. Jaxxa is a founding member of I Found U, an international group of artists working across different materials and mediums, committed to discussion and collaboration on environmental, sociological and economic concerns.
