Life inspires what I depict. The wood surface is where I express my deepest emotions, thought and experiences. My works race, religion, ideas of traditional love and politics. My point of view is revealed by the free handed of decorating on wood with burn marks resulting from controlled application of fire flame or heated gun directly on wood burning to create textures to defined my subject and emotionally connects with my audience. I hope that when people see my works, they get to witness something beautiful, healing and respite from all that is negative in the world. Akwasi Gyambibi is my name. I was born and nurtured in a city called Tema, popularly known as the harbour city in Ghana. Currently residing in New York city, Queens. I found the necessary happiness of childhood pleasure and entertainment through drawing and painting. This was the only activity that draws joy from my innermost self. This was where i begun to realize my dream by building on my passion and releasing my potentials to have impact in the world. I attended Adonten Senior High School and completed successful and i was encouraged to attend Ghanatta College of Arts and Design in Ghana which i received the overall Best student to have exceptional skills in figure drawing and painting in 2007. From there I then took my talent as a full time artist. My artworks for some years have been mostly figurative, only that in veils the history of modern lifestyle African activities, beliefs and stories, which have a profound impact in our contemporary culture today. Over the past couple years; Akwasi’s works have been exhibited in Ghana, United State, London thats explore universal themes of culture, race, politics and religion. I hope to communicate and connect with the world and to create a relationship with viewers that’s transcends beyond on the wood.
