About this artwork
Modern beauty & mythology merge in an imagined profile portrait of Chlíodhna, the primary Irish goddess of the sea and waves. As the daughter of the sea god Manannán mac Lir, she rules over powerful ocean swells, with every ninth wave famously sacred to her. In ancient coastal traditions, her blessing was invoked by placing a wish and a pearl in a double-shell tied with seaweed and casting it into the ninth wave. Created in layers of acrylic paint and oil stick on gesso primed art paper. Framed in white wood with a white bevelled mount and glass glazed.
