Portrait of African activist, journalist & Notting Hill Carnival inspiration, Claudia Jones who died in 1964, the year I was born. This piece was created in 2020 at the request of organisers of an online exhibition coinciding with the Notting Hill Carnival celebrations during covid lockdown. A movie biopic if her life is currently in production. Soft pastel on black art paper. Ready to hang, box framed in black wood, with UV protective poly glass and a pure white bevel cut mount. Signed on artwork and on back of frame.

Rebecca Hillery-Tong is a British painter living and working in UK & Ireland. She has a formal art training & a BA in Fashion Design from Kingston University. After a 30 year career as a professional fashion designer she returned to her art practice in 2020. Working in oil paints and pastel on various surfaces, she combines traditional techniques with a modern, spontaneous edge, working figuratively & recently focusing on seaweed imagery. Rebecca has shown and sold her work in 4 group exhibitions at independent galleries in the UK.
