Portrait of African activist, journalist & Notting Hill Carnival inspiration, Claudia Jones who died in 1964, the year I was born. This piece was created in 2020 at the request of organisers of an online exhibition coinciding with the Notting Hill Carnival celebrations during covid lockdown. I take pride in
This portrait of Claudia Jones done in 2020, during the height of covid lockdown before the vaccine. This period coincided with the Black Lives Matter movement which opened my eyes to a lot of things and gifted me with renewed inspiration. I started to research the most incredible black women activists, pioneers, feminists, and artists who had been mostly airbrushed from history and discovered their stories.. the process continues.
