About this artwork
Estimated value: $1,900 to $2,280 Photograph, Pigment Print. Image Size: 21x28cm Edition 01 of 01 Sunflowers is part of Apollonia's "Covered Cars" series, a playful and spontaneous collection created around 2019-2020. This series marks a significant departure from her earlier, more labor-intensive work, coinciding with her transition to digital photography. Embracing a sense of freedom and discovery, Apollonia found joy in capturing these mysterious, shrouded vehicles throughout Venice Beach. Inspired by a Robert Frank (1924-2019) photograph of a covered car, the image features a car cover with a vibrant sunflower pattern, set against the backdrop of Venice's eclectic urban landscape. This piece reflects Apollonia's ability to find intrigue and beauty in everyday objects, while also showcasing her evolution as an artist adapting to new technologies and approaches in her practice.
