About this artwork
The Sun appears to us as the quintessential unchanging star. Yet behind this seeming constancy lies a cyclical dynamic that can at times be unpredictable. Episodes of intense solar activity can produce a stream of particles known as the “solar wind”, which manifests on Earth as auroras. In this series of works, Lancelot Blondeel explores a new medium by using paper as a support. The artist’s approach is marked by an exploration of texture, made possible here by the roughness and irregularities in the weave of the paper. Lancelot Blondeel also engages in a dual study of movement. In the background, the path of charged particles leaving the heliosphere is depicted with broad brushstrokes. In the foreground, an organic, dynamic form emerges, created through a gesture made in a matter of moments. The artist aims to evoke the tension between the human experience of the present moment and the apparent impermanence of the stars.

About the artist
Lancelot Blondeel is a contemporary painter born in 1988, currently living and working in Vincennes (France). Drawing on his background in engineering, the artist explores in his abstract creations the relationship between humans and the experience of reality. His work is primarily distinguished by two main series: the "No Reason" series, featuring vibrant colors and spontaneous, hand-drawn gestures, and the "Interlaced Landscapes" series, consisting of abstract landscapes composed of horizontal or vertical bands. The artist works with raw materials such as cotton canvas, wood, pigments, and varnishes. His method is characterized by the use of handmade tools. Each new painting series follows a process of development akin to the scientific method, involving the creation of a specific technique. Rejecting being confined to any particular style or formalism, the artist's research encompasses both gestural and geometric abstraction. Lancelot Blondeel is interested in texture, using layering and impasto techniques to create a tactile surface effect. The use of curved lines with varying thicknesses contributes to a sense of movement. Lancelot Blondeel focuses on the ontological relationship between humans and reality. For him, the senses and consciousness act as an interface between the individual and the real, implying that our perception of reality is inevitably colored by our own subjectivity. Thus, his abstract works do not aim to represent the external world but rather reflect the inner experience.
