Here is the translation: Marilina Marchica was born in Agrigento in 1984, where she lives and works. Graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, her artistic research explores the theme of subtraction and the aesthetics of the sign, using architecture and walls as metaphors for the relationships between man, nature, and time. Through fragments and discarded materials, her works examine the dialogue between form and matter, pushing to the edge of abstraction. Marilina has held solo exhibitions at FAM Gallery in Agrigento, San Sebastiano Contemporary in Palazzolo Acreide, Spazio HUS in Milan, and the Brodbeck Foundation. Notable participations include the 2nd edition of the FAM Award and an artist residency at Villa Aurea in the Valley of the Temples. Her works are part of collections in Italy and abroad, including the Museum of Mediterranean Weaves and Fabbriche Chiaramontane in Agrigento. Her poetics are rooted in the memory of place, reflecting on the fragility of matter and its connection to human experience. Through techniques such as casting, frottage, and collage, Marilina captures the essence of abandoned spaces, transforming them into ephemeral landscapes. In her work, the fragment becomes a metaphor for fracture and turbulence, offering new perspectives on dwelling and the relationship between humans and the environment.
