About this artwork
Painting generally involves working within a two-dimensional space, which can sometimes be limiting. I wanted to incorporate volume into my work, and this new addition to the "Interlaced Landscapes" series explores that third dimension. The canvas-on-canvas layering adds a physical presence to the landscape. The black strips at the top and bottom reference traditional Chinese hanging scrolls. © Adagp

About the artist

Lancelot Blondeel (b. 1988) is a contemporary painter based in residence in Le Pré-Saint-Gervais. His practice centers on a gestural approach, where painting becomes a response to movement. With a background in engineering, he brings a scientific perspective to the construction of his works. Lancelot Blondeel engages with painting in a tactile, almost sculptural way scraping, sanding, adding and removing layers. He works with raw materials such as pigments, acrylic mediums, canvas, and varnish, often applying them with handmade tools like scrapers. Each canvas holds a trace of the artist’s movement, capturing physical gestures that freeze a dynamic presence on the surface. Through abstraction, Lancelot Blondeel explores how human consciousness shapes our perception of reality. Rather than depict the external world, his work invites introspection and a deeper awareness of how we experience what is real.
