About this artwork
The composition captures a poignant moment of transition and identity. The subject, positioned in a new environment marked by the presence of the U.S. flag, gazes intently at a family album—a symbol of heritage and belonging. On the opposite side, a U.S. migration document underscores the reality of their journey. Suspended between past and present, the piece evokes the emotional tension of navigating multiple cultures, embodying the complexities of migration, memory, and self-discovery.

About the artist

Born in 1997 in Kwara State, Nigeria, and migrating to the United States in 2021, I have spent years exploring the depths of artistic expression across multiple mediums—charcoal, graphite, ballpoint pen, photography, sign design, and now, mixed media. My artistic journey has been shaped by personal narratives, societal challenges, and the ever-evolving experience of migration. Through years of experimentation, I have developed a unique approach to collage art, blending Dutch wax textiles, acrylics, oil paints, and photography. The vibrant patterns of these fabrics not only captivate me but also serve as a powerful reminder of Africa’s rich culture, its history, and the forces that have shaped it. My work delves into themes of neocolonialism, cultural identity, and the upheaval of migration. By cutting, twisting, and reassembling fabrics, I create new visual dialogues—bringing African cultural elements into unfamiliar spaces and challenging the boundaries of tradition and transformation. Each piece is a conversation, an invitation to reflect, and a bridge between past and present.
