About this artwork
This painting is from a series entitled “Evil Doers”, which examines the iconography and stereotyping inherent in film and television. Each painting in this series was completed in a single day. The painting process began by following the methods associated with ‘correct’ portraiture. They were then subjected to a kind of wiping with a large house painting brush. Those that survived this last step live in a kind of liminal stage, looking somewhat holographic or diffused. The objective was to paint the iconic beyond the recognizable actor; to look for the elements which describe the role, rather than the individual.
