This painting is from a series entitled “Victims”. In this series, I examined dozens of movies and television shows in order to examine the representation of death, particularly that of the extras. Within the varied representation, I discovered tropes from the history of painting (particularly religious painting), mixed with contemporary or fashionable motifs of sexuality, eroticism and other embellishments. “Afterlife” examines the plight of so many extras, namely, the paradox of being imprinted upon the eternal memory of the silver screen not as an actor per se, but as a corpse.
