About this artwork
A work on paper. Suzanne Valadon Portrait of the great self-taught painter of women and girls. Originally a circus performer and an artist model for Renoir, Lautrec and Degas, an accident on the trapeze luckily changed her course. Although very successful in her lifetime, her artist son, Maurice Utrillo has somewhat eclipsed her legacy. My piece uses fragments of her paintings with a photo transfer collage process.

For the past 12 years I have been making unconventional portraits of women artists, writers, performers and impresarios working, living and loving in the early 20th Century.
