The Narcissist who saved himself is a reinterpretation of Caravaggio's Narcissus which was painted in the late 1500s. Narcissus is a mythological figure who became so consumed by vanity that he would not leave his reflection & it lead to his demise. In Cynthia Howard's rendition, Narcissus reaches passed the mirrored surface to rescue what is underneath.
