This painting, 'Awakening to the Light ' is a part of an abstract expressionist series that I have ongoing at the moment, where I use psychic automatism. Sometimes it takes a while to get the image right, but it gives a sense of freedom doing them at the time. Initially, I do have an idea to where I want to arrive with the image, although it may turn out slightly different with spurs of inspiration by the time it is finished. These paintings are never done in one go and thus may take different directions through different feelings as I go along, feelings on which these kind of paintings are contrived. The colour scheme, which plays a big part of the painting however, generally remains the same and that is usually on the light side of the scheme. This particular piece is a mixed media painting on a gallery wrapped canvas. The bases of the media that I used is acrylic and vinyl paint, but pure colour pigment is also employed for certain effects and to achieve a certain atmosphere. The sides of the painting also help complete the piece and all four are painted in a lilac colour, adding to the calming pastel colour notion. For this reason, it does not need any framing and will look complete as it is. The signature is intentionally placed on the rear of the painting, together with the rest of the markings as to not interfere with the viewing. Many of my paintings are marked in this way.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour, fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and sober aspect of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric, or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What are prevalent throughout his work are light, movement and flow, leaning towards enlightenment.
