taros. Then came Gaia, the Earth Mother. With her came Uranos, heaven. Gaia and Uranos had children. But because they were ugly and strong, Uranos feared that they would overthrow him as soon as they grew up. So he let them fall into Tartaros, a place from which there is no escape. The Tartaros lay beneath the underworld. It was almost like a prison of gods. Soon after, Gaia gave birth to 12 children of Uranos, the Titans. Titans are demigods. At some point, Gaia quarreled with Uranos. She called her children, the Titans, to her and said: "Your father locked your sisters and brothers in the Tartarus. If you are ready to avenge them, then cut up your father!" No titan dared do such a thing. Then the youngest Titan, Kronos, stepped forward and said, "I'll do it!" General shouts of victory broke out. Gaia made a sickle out of her kingdom, the earth, for Kronos.
