Lachesis is the middle of the three moires in Greek mythology. Her task is to measure the length of the thread of life spun by her sister Clotho and severed by the third sister Atropos. According to Hesiod, Lachesis was a daughter of Zeus and Themis. Elsewhere in the theogony, however, the goddesses of fate (moirs) are called children of the nyx (“night”).
