About this artwork
The paintings in this series are extremely special to me, as they were created during lockdown, and were possible through an of grace during a very difficult period. An art model and accomplished opera singer I know donated her time to pose via zoom so that we artists could continue our life-painting practice. We in turn, donated to her for her time. As a performer, she too was kept from practicing her art. Instead of dwelling in the loss and disruption, she focused on others who felt their lives (and creativity) dim during this period. She posed in her leotard, feeling more comfortable while working through this digital form of communication, and I wanted to celebrate her choice in this series.

About the artist
I am a painter who studied Art, History of Art and Chemistry at UC Berkeley, and obtained my Masters in Art Conservation from Queens University. My work in museums around the world - including SFMOMA and the National Gallery of Art in Washington - informs my painting practice, and drives me to work in both traditional and non-traditional media and methods. I am from California, but have lived and worked in France, Toronto and Hong Kong. I currently call Vancouver, Canada my home, and when I'm not in my studio, I can be found in the mountains or in the sea.
