About this artwork
A figurative work in my classic style, this painting was created with bold palette knife work while in front of a live model. My art is influenced by the works of the Bay Area Figurative Group, and you can see the west coast light of Diebenkorn, and the bold squares of Hans Hoffman in compositional conversation on this piece. As with many of my paintings of women, I want the figure to convey confidence and awareness of self that the model herself had. Like the bright pink highlights on her body, the rose in her hair draws your eye to her thoughtful turn of head, and makes us wonder what she ponders as she gazes westward.

About the artist
I am a painter who studied Art, History of Art and Chemistry at UC Berkeley, and obtained my Masters in Art Conservation from Queens University. My work in museums around the world - including SFMOMA and the National Gallery of Art in Washington - informs my painting practice, and drives me to work in both traditional and non-traditional media and methods. I am from California, but have lived and worked in France, Toronto and Hong Kong. I currently call Vancouver, Canada my home, and when I'm not in my studio, I can be found in the mountains or in the sea.
