My whole perspective on our corporeal limits - the boundaries between ourselves and our environment - changed after I received a sight-restoring corneal transplant. The idea that I could literally see life through the lens of another, brought to question this false divide we construct between us and others, between the individual and the collective. This series explores this tenuous border between our bodies and their surroundings by creating the figure with thread that literally pierces through the abstracted realm. The experience of realizing our intrinsic oneness with all of humanity can be overwhelming, to say the least. It is a realization that ebbs and flows, with the universe alternating between awe-inspiring and overwhelming. This artwork captures the latter, and acts to remind us of the power of self-care in the process of growth and exploration.
