Wallace Kaname Yonamine was a Japanese American multi sport athlete. In 1947 he was signed to the San Francisco 49ers as a running back becoming the first Japanese American professional football player. His football career ended that off-season after he broke his wrist playing amatuer baseball in Hawaii. He would go on to play professional baseball in Japan winning 4 series championships and central League MVP in 1957. In 1994 he became the first American player to be inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.

About the artist
Kellen Hatanaka is a visual artist based in Stratford, ON. His work has been presented and distributed in a multitude of forms across Canada and internationally in the United States, including public painted murals, gallery and museum exhibitions and has been featured in publications including Victory Journal, ArtMaze Magazine, and Graphite Journal. In 2016 he was awarded the Governor General’s Award with Jon-Erik Lappano for their book, Tokyo Digs a Garden.
