About this artwork
Estimated Value: $700 In responding to the prompt of the show, I reflected on my personal and historical experience with love, practically and visually. The work is a self-portrait in a pink hue that references ancient Persian illustrations, particularly miniature illustrations and the stylization of the figure in these paintings, signified by the unibrow, hair, eyes and editing of my facial structure. I have a forward, to the side gaze, as if I am looking at someone or something. There is a sense of awe, a trance-like look on my face, in an attempt to capture the look of love on one’s face. My hand is touching my significant other's hand, which I have doubled and mirrored, overlapping with my face and forming a heart.

About the artist
Brandon Baghaee (b.2002) has a BFA from OCAD University and is an artist living and working in Toronto. In his work, he explores identity, culture, and history through surrealist and fantastical painting effects, creating narratives through memory and speculative ideas. There are hints of his heritage, influenced by his bi-racial background being Persian and Black. He has participated in group exhibitions such as The Archive of Merit: From OSA to OCAD and a solo show at The Drake Hotel. He also did a project for Scotiabank Arena and Sports and the Arts, the City of Toronto, and public art for STEPS Public Art.
