This painting is two paintings in one. When hung in a certain direction the image resembles a tropical bird. When hung in the opposite direction the image shows a somewhat impolite hand gesture. This painting captures my experience as an artist thus far. If only I were given the opportunity I could soar like a bird, rather than be given “the bird” in rejection.

My artwork begins with a word or phrase that I use as the title, which I physically write on the canvas. The concept behind my associations with the given title is what’s most important as I choose the colour palette. My goal is to embrace the universal emotions that colours invoke and pair them with words. Communicating a common understanding of the connections between the given title and the visual elements within the artwork. My influences often revolve around current events and human nature.
