About this artwork
Exploring the theme of reinvention, Refine remixes various shapes into an abstract collage of active forms. The shapes in this piece employ a macro lens on silhouettes to create large grounds of colour punctuated with hard lines for the eye to travel on. The resulting effect is a painting that activates the eye, celebrating confident, inventive, and bold abstraction.

About the artist
In John Holland's work, abstract forms expand into a composition that's continually updating – the end of one piece is the beginning of something new. This dialogue mirrors digital media's evolving tools, shaping an abstract language conditioned by the digital age. John lives and works in Toronto, Canada. He obtained his MFA from Parsons School of Design and BFA from OCAD University. He has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at commercial galleries in Toronto and New York, including Winston Wächter Fine Art and Angell Gallery.
