About the artist
Fashion and portrait photographer Nafisah Crumity explores the experiences of black culture, femininity, and queer identities. Their work explores the intersections of these 3 identities. Growing up they thought a lot of their interests were based in whiteness (i.e. listening to rock music, how they speak and their style). As Nafisah hit adulthood they learned more about black history and the contributions that black people made. Their knowledge of these facts are embraced in their work, showcasing black, feminine presenting people. Nafisah is studying photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology and is looking forward to earning their BFA. Before studying at the Fashion Institute, they earned their AA in psychology at Bronx Community College. This allows them to connect and understand their clients better. More recently their work has been featured in a few publications including Blush magazine, 17:23, and Selin magazine. Another great accomplishment of theirs was being a part of a group show in October ‘22 called ‘Unseen Memory’, as well as The Bridge program.
