Her stylized figures pay homage to the caricatures that contribute to the tourism scene in her hometown of Orlando, Florida. Her work is centered around her fascination with time and the many ways it can be distorted, i.e. memories and dreams. She is interested in trauma and technology as vehicles for the variance in which time is experienced. In Ally’s paintings, she uses black holes as a metaphor for the human experience. When a star is put under a significant amount of pressure, it becomes a black hole that distorts time and space. In theory, anything can become a black hole if enough pressure is applied, but we only see this naturally occurring in stars. She likes to apply this theory to humans in high pressure situations that lead to trauma. Trauma brings the past into present reality affecting the way time and space are perceived, thus explaining the literal figurative distortions seen in her work. These distortions are also influenced by filter/facetune culture, ai, and the way that technology and social media change how we process our lives. Ally received her BFA in Drawing & Painting from the University of Georgia.
